As another autodidact who shed a previous (academic) career to become a photographer, I’m charmed with the portraits and dismayed by the overwhelming discussion of equipment rather than the evolution of the art and the mentation of the artist. There seems to be an overwhelming implication that the “right gear” is primary, which I find ridiculous. On the other hand, I’ve always wondered about the brand of brushes used by Rembrandt…
